My name is Jason Yamaoka, and I am a multi-instrumentalist that specializes in writing, recording and performing downtempo original composition and acoustic covers. I draw inspiration from renowned artists such as Fink, The Civil Wars, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, City and Colour, James Vincent McMorrow, Lord Huron, and The Weepies.

From 1998 to 2018, I was a prominent figure in the acoustic songwriter scenes of San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. I had the honor of sharing the stage with esteemed artists such as Jason Mraz, Gregory Page, Lisa Sanders, Tom Brousseau, Ari Hest, Isaac Cheong, and Nathan Welden. My extensive repertoire features over 100 original folk, pop, and rock songs, as well as 100 cover songs.

From 2012 to 2022, I served as the Director of Contemporary Worship at First United Methodist Church Chula Vista. In 2020, I composed a Christian song titled “At the House and Mercy” which achieved top honors in three distinguished songwriting contests, including the prestigious John Lennon International Songwriting Competition. You can listen to this award-winning song and watch its lyric video below, along with samples of my single-take recordings.

I am eager to explore potential collaborations with you in the future.

Best Regards,
Jason Yamaoka

I was rehearsing a mellow version of All Your Favorite Bands by Dawes. I liked it how it ended up, so I added some other parts. Videos were recorded on an iPhone 13 mini. Audio was recorded simultaneously going directly into and mixed with Logic Pro X in order to add some reverb and EQ for space and clarity.

I was particularly excited for the weekend, so during my break I took a quick recording on my phone to express how I was feeling about it’s arrival. Hysteria by Muse.
